Report: Digital J&K Week 2023 Inaugural Session at Government Degree College Beerwah

The inaugural day of the Digital J&K Week 2023 commenced with a significant lecture delivered by Prof. Muhammad Iqbal Bhat in the Computer Science Lab of Government Degree College Beerwah. The event witnessed the participation of esteemed Principal Prof. Syed Ifat Ara, dedicated faculty members, and a large number of enthusiastic students.

Prof. Muhammad Iqbal Bhat's lecture on the topic "Digital Transformation in J&K: Progress towards a Digital India" resonated with the audience. He underscored the pivotal role of digital transformation in societal advancement and delved into the reasons behind India's lag in the global digital arena compared to developed European and Western countries. The lecture outlined the strategic measures undertaken by the Government of India through the Digital India Initiative to bridge this gap.

The lecture encompassed the core vision and pillars of the Digital India Initiative, along with an exposition of diverse digital services executed by the Government of India. Prof. Iqbal brilliantly navigated the journey of the J&K government towards realizing the dream of a Digital India. He highlighted several digital initiatives launched by the government of J&K, including the janbhagidari portal, beams portal for budget, land records portal, e-office, National Generic Document Registration Portal, Integrated Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (JK-IGRAMS), Rapid Assessment System (RAS), Single Window Clearance System Portal, GEM Portal, e-kitabkosh portal, and digilocker, among others.

Following Prof. Muhammad Iqbal Bhat's enlightening lecture, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Bhat, a faculty member in the Computer Science Department, took the stage to elaborate on key digital platforms. He provided a comprehensive demonstration of DigiLocker and the Swayam platform, offering attendees valuable insights into their utility. Additionally, he elucidated essential cyber safety rules, emphasizing the importance of digital security in today's interconnected world.

The session concluded with heartfelt words of gratitude extended by Prof. Shabir Ahmad Mir, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, who also skillfully hosted the session. The successful execution of the program was the collaborative effort of the Department of Computer Science in conjunction with the NSS wing of the college headed by NSS Programme Officer Dr. Firdous Ahmad Dar.
