Department of Physics in collaboration with Institution’s Innovation Council organized experiential learning tour to High Altitude Research Laboratory, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Gulmarg (HARL-BARC) on 25th April 2024. The students were given demonstration about the research being carried out at HARL-BARC. The students visited the neutron detection laboratory and interacted with the scientists.  Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Darzi and his team gave a demonstration about the different components of the experiment and how the theoretical knowledge of physics acquired at the undergraduate level is implemented in the experiment. The students got acquainted with the neutron detection experiment, data acquisition, and analysis. Students also visited Magnetic Observatory, where the scientists demonstrated the measurement and variation of horizontal component of earth’s magnetic field due to magnetic storms from the sun. The students were practically demonstrated how the fluctuations in geomagnetic storms are recorded per second in units of nanoTesla (nT). Moreover, the practical demonstration for the measurement of angle of declination and inclination at a given location was also carried out. The scientists have proposed to guide some of the interested students for mini project work in future. The department and the students are highly thankful to the Principal for facilitating this visit to HARL-BARC Gulmarg.
