Report of Social Outreach Programme

Under the initiative of Community Outreach Programme, NSS Unit of GDC Beerwah visited Ringzabaj and Khurain a nomadic village in the Arisal Block of Budgam District. The NSS team was by Dr. Firdous Ahmad an NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Mulla IQAC Convener and Dr. Sajad Hussian Rather NCC officer along with Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Driver and Ghlam Nabi Dar Conductor of the Bus. The entire team left the college at 8:00 am followed the route from Beerwah to Arisal and from Arisal to Ringzabaj. It took us two and half hour to reach the destination. Since the road from Arisal is not in good condition therefore the team has covered four to six miles on foot. It was really a challenging experience for all of us as walking through the dense forests and maize fields not only refreshes mind but also keeps you alert for fear of bear and other kinds of wild animals. Any way the team has reach khurain village by 10:18 am received a warm well come by the staff and students of Govt. Middle School Khurain along with some locals who were already intimated by Mr Mohd. Maqbool whose guidance and help is praiseworthy. When the NSS team entered the school premises it was morning assembly time. In the capacity of the NSS programme Officer, I took permission from the headmaster of the school and intimated him about the purpose of our visit and accordingly the proceedings of the visit were started. In the meantime, both faculty and NSS volunteers interacted with students and teachers of the school. The interactive session with staff, villagers and sarpanch stretched for more than two hours. Both faculty and NSS volunteers made intensive sessions discussing issues of cleanliness, waste management, the backwardness of the region,
